Most teleprompter software falls into one of two traps: too simple for real broadcast environments, or too expensive and bloated for productions that just need reliability. After years of working on live broadcasts and corporate productions at MGL Videoservices and Teleprompterservice.at, we built our own solution — BroadcastPrompt.
Here’s what makes it different.
Runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux
BroadcastPrompt is fully cross-platform — no separate licenses, no feature gaps between operating systems. Whether you’re running a ruggedized Windows laptop in an OB van, a Mac in a studio rack, or a Linux workstation in post — the interface, shortcuts, and behavior are identical across all three.
Backup System with Live Sync — Because Failure Isn’t an Option
The backbone of BroadcastPrompt is its built-in network synchronization. One main system drives the prompter while up to two backup machines run in parallel — live, in real time, on the exact same scroll position. If the main system goes down, a backup takes over instantly. No restart, no reload, no freeze on the presenter’s side.
Switching from main to backup — and back — takes a single click. Parallel control also means multiple operators can work within the same system simultaneously, which is essential for complex live productions with multiple studios or remote locations.
Script Structure That Thinks Like a Broadcast
BroadcastPrompt organizes scripts the way broadcast teams actually work — not just as a text file, but as a structured rundown. Key tools include:
- Anchors — Jump markers for instant navigation. A single keyboard shortcut moves the operator directly to the next topic, story, or segment without searching.
- Headlines — Clear visual separators visible at a glance across the entire script.
- Note tags — Director cues and production notes that are visible to the operator but never appear on the output display.
- Speaker definitions — Each speaker gets their own font size, applied automatically. When the script shifts from one presenter to another, the display adapts immediately. No manual reformatting, no confusion in multi-voice productions.
Holding Slide — The First Thing Your Presenter Sees
Before the prompter rolls, the presenter sees the holding slide: either a custom text screen („Stand by — starting shortly“) or your own logo displayed full-screen, with fill or original-with-blur presentation modes. The moment the operator launches the software, the holding slide appears on the output monitor automatically. No black screen, no guessing whether the system is ready.
Built for Live — the Details That Matter
- Speed ramp — Speed changes accelerate and decelerate smoothly, with no hard jumps that would throw off the presenter.
- Mirror mode (horizontal & vertical) — Full support for beam-splitter glass teleprompters.
- Reading line — Freely positionable guide line with configurable color.
- Safe area — Adjustable margins for different display sizes and teleprompter hardware setups.
- Station lock with PIN — The operator workstation can be locked during a live broadcast so nothing gets changed accidentally.
- Auto-save & project history — The script is saved automatically in the background. If something crashes, nothing is lost.
- Document import — Existing scripts and documents can be imported directly and structured within the app.
Who Is BroadcastPrompt For?
BroadcastPrompt is built for production teams that need a teleprompter that behaves like professional broadcast equipment — not like a consumer app. Live news, event productions, corporate video, multi-camera studio shoots: anywhere reliability is non-negotiable.
It runs on the hardware you already have, on the operating system your team already uses, and it stays out of the way so the operator can focus on the production.
